The paper discusses the development and improvement of rational types of enclosing structures for wooden buildings, taking into account the coupled heat and mass transfer processes occurring in them and environmental safety. A comparative analysis of typical structures reduced to a unified standard thermal resistance is presented. It has been revealed that timber structures have a negative carbon footprint at the production stage (–116.2 kg CO₂‑equiv.·m⁻²) due to carbon sequestration. To ensure durability and realize their environmental potential, the need for mathematical modeling of unsteady heat and mass transfer based on the classical theory of Academician of the RAACS S.V. Fedosov is substantiated. The developed algorithm, employing the integral Laplace transform and similarity theory, makes it possible to obtain an analytical solution in the form of rapidly convergent series. This solution serves as a reliable basis for the development of numerical methods for experimental studies of the properties of materials and for the creation of algorithms for monitoring the technical condition of timber structures during their service life.
